With over 90% of its territory under permanent preservation, Bertioga is just over 100 km from São Paulo and is a must-see destination for those who want to experience the value of the Caiçara culture, so characteristic of the Brazilian coast.
HISTORY AND CULTURE
Bertioga is home to the first documented fort in Brazil. Built in 1532, Forte São João is an ideal place for learning, engaging children and adults in an enjoyable visit that culminates in a beautiful view of the Bertioga Channel.
ECOTOURISM
Bertioga has two trails open for ecotourism activities. The Guaratuba Trail, with a medium level of difficulty, is 4km long, includes a river crossing, and passes through areas of low and high coastal vegetation, hillside forest, and dense rainforest.
The Water Trail allows you to learn about the changing vegetation of the preserved Atlantic Forest, passing through mangroves, coastal scrub, swamp forest, hillside forest, and dense rainforest. It also has cultural attractions, including a passage along the Itatinga Power Plant cable car line and the iron bridge over the Guaranduva River. This trail is 2.7 km long and has a medium level of difficulty.
